Privacy notice
Covers the unsneak app and unsneak.com. Last updated 22 October 2026.
We're building an app about honesty, so this notice tries to be short and clear. If anything is unclear, email [email protected] and a person will answer.
1. Who we are
unsneak is run from Ireland ("unsneak", "we"), and we are the controller of the personal data described here. The registered company name, address and number will be published on this page before the app opens to the public. Until then, contact us at [email protected]; that address also reaches the person responsible for data protection.
2. The unsneak app
What we collect, and why
- Your account: your email address or phone number (whichever you sign in with), and a sign-in identifier from Google, Apple, Facebook or our phone sign-in provider. We use it to create your account, keep it secure and send service messages. We never see your password for those services.
- Your profile: your first name, date of birth (your age is shown, your birthday never is), gender, who you'd like to meet, what you're looking for, your photos, your prompts and answers, interests, an optional voice intro, and optional details like work, home town and height. Who you'd like to meet can reveal your sexual orientation; we use it only to introduce you to the right people.
- Your location: when you allow it, your device location, used to show people nearby and the distance between you, and to check that unsneak is open where you are. Other people only ever see a rough distance, never where you are. If you don't share it, we use the area you chose.
- Your courtships: invitations and first lines, Round answers, rituals, sealed letters, messages, photos and voice notes you send, Dial choices, Asks and date details, goodbyes, and Tonight answers. We keep these so the app works for you and the person you're courting, and so we can review them if someone reports a problem.
- Calls: voice and porch (video) calls are connected live and are never recorded. We keep only that a call happened, when and how long, because the Close stage depends on it.
- Safety: reports you make or receive, blocks, date check-ins you set up, and the result of verification checks. We use these to keep people safe and act on reports.
- Premium: if you buy Premium, a record of the purchase and when it renews or ends. Payment is handled by Google Play, the App Store or Revolut; we never see your card details.
- Your settings: notification choices, quiet hours, privacy choices (such as discreet mode and read receipts), theme and pace.
- Device and diagnostics: a push notification token (if you allow notifications), and limited technical logs (errors, requests, security events) to keep the service reliable and stop abuse.
We do not collect your contacts, calendar, SMS or call logs, browsing history or advertising ID. The app has no advertising SDKs and no tracking, and we never sell your data. Our AI features never write messages as you.
Moderation
Text you share with other people (first lines, prompts, messages, Tonight answers) is checked automatically for contact details, links and abuse before it is shown, and reports are reviewed by a person. Nothing is ever posted for you.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time in the app: You › Settings › Delete my account. You can also download a copy of your data there. If you can't open the app, see how to delete your account. When you delete, your profile disappears straight away and your data is erased, except what we must keep for a short time for safety or legal reasons (see section 6).
3. The website
The waitlist
- Email address: to save your place and email you about your invite and the launch.
- City (Dublin or Bengaluru): to know where to invite you and when to open.
- Gender (optional): only to plan women-first invite waves and keep rooms balanced. You can choose "Rather not say" or skip it.
- Referral code: who invited you, and who you invited, so we can move you both up the list.
- Technical data: the date you joined, and limited security logs (such as IP address) kept to stop abuse and fake sign-ups.
Tonight
- Your answer (up to 80 characters), the city and the date. Answers are shown anonymously to other people in that city, without your name, photo or email.
- A random device identifier stored in your browser, so you can answer once per night and see the room afterwards.
- Reports you send about an answer, so we can review it.
unsneak Hosts
- Your organisation, name, email, city, event details and any message, so we can talk to you about hosting.
The website does not collect photos, location, contacts or payment details, and uses no advertising trackers.
Preview mode. Until our servers are switched on, the site runs in a preview mode: what you type is stored only in your own browser and is not sent to us.
4. Legal bases (GDPR)
- Contract (Art. 6(1)(b)): running your account, profile, courtships, calls, Premium and settings in the app.
- Explicit consent (Art. 9(2)(a)): who you'd like to meet (which can reveal sexual orientation), and any verification selfie when that check is switched on. You can withdraw by changing it or deleting your account.
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)): precise location, push notifications, waitlist emails and the optional gender field on the website. You can withdraw at any time in your device settings, in the app, by unsubscribing or by emailing us.
- Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)): safety, moderation and acting on reports, preventing abuse and fake accounts, keeping the service secure, running Tonight and replying to Hosts enquiries.
- Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)): keeping records the law requires, such as purchase records, and answering lawful requests.
5. Who we share it with
We never sell your data. We use a small number of service providers ("processors") under contract, and they may only use it to provide their service to us:
- Microsoft Azure (EU, North Europe region): app servers, database, photo and voice storage, and email delivery.
- Google Firebase: sign-in and push notifications.
- Cloudflare: hosting this website, and relaying calls when a direct connection isn't possible (the relay carries the call live and stores nothing).
- Google Play, Apple and Revolut: Premium payments, as independent controllers under their own terms.
Other members see only what you put on your profile and share in a courtship. Where data leaves the EEA, we rely on adequacy decisions or Standard Contractual Clauses. We may disclose data where the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.
6. How long we keep it
- Waitlist data: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, or 24 months after the last email we sent you, whichever is first.
- Your app account and profile: while your account is open. When you delete it, we erase it, except safety reports and the minimum needed to stop a banned account coming back (kept up to 12 months) and purchase records (kept as long as tax law requires).
- Courtship content: while your account is open. Messages you sent stay visible to the other person until their account closes, unless you report or block them.
- Tonight answers: 90 days, then deleted or kept only in anonymised, aggregate form.
- Hosts enquiries: 24 months, unless we start working together.
- Security logs: up to 90 days.
7. Your rights
You can ask to access, correct, delete, restrict or export your data, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. Most of this you can do yourself in the app (You › Settings), or email [email protected]; we'll reply within one month. You can also complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission or your local authority. Users in India may contact our grievance officer at the same address; the officer will be named here before we open in India.
8. Cookies and local storage
We don't use advertising or analytics cookies. The site uses your browser's local storage for things that make it work: your theme and city choice, your referral code, your Tonight device identifier and, in preview mode, your sample answers and waitlist entry. Our fonts are served from our own site, so no font provider sees your visit. If we ever add analytics, we'll ask first.
9. 18+ only
unsneak is only for adults aged 18 and over. If the date of birth given at sign-up is under 18, we don't create a profile and we erase the sign-in straight away. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18, and we delete it if we find out. See our child safety standards.
10. Changes
We'll update this notice before the app opens to the public, and tell members and waitlist members about important changes in the app or by email.
